Paulina"I am not perfect but that's what I'm striving for...doing the best I can."
Paulina is a student that has blossomed from a shy, quiet freshman, to a vocal, academically strong, committed leader in her school. She attends W.H. Adamson High School and will become the first person in her family to graduate from high school. She credits her determination to pursue higher education to EIF and her two sisters, who in her own words “need a role model.” She is all too happy to serve this role. Recently, her father lost his job, so her mother currently supports their family of five with a job in the produce department at a local grocery store. Although her family would benefit significantly if Paulina worked a part-time job while in high school, they made the difficult decision to allow her to focus on school and her grades so that she could have a chance to go to college and be exposed to opportunities that they themselves never had.
EIF is working with Paulina and her family to ensure that their sacrifice is rewarded. Through her participation in EIF, for example, she applied to and was selected as a City of Dallas Youth Commission Leader. Paulina now regularly speaks at various civic and business functions in Dallas representing her high school and EIF. She was recently selected as a speaker for the Mayor’s Intern Fellows Press Conference. Paulina’s goal is to combine fashion design/merchandising with a business degree and to someday own her own company, which is a perfect fit for this young woman who describes herself as determined to succeed, persistent, and always on the go.
