Home * Who Is EIF * Adan

Adan Adan Gonzalez, 16, a sophomore, says confidently that he wants to be governor of Texas. "I'm a natural leader and I see stuff I want to change and I want to make an impact in history. I don't want to be part of the bunch," he says. "I'm a weird guy." For Adan, "weird" includes excelling in sports, varsity soccer, cross-country, track along with his academic career including 4 pre-AP classes and AP Spanish IV , on top of that, he's a nationally ranked boxer who will vie to compete in the Junior Olympics. Adan is incredibly proud of his father who moved to Texas at 16 with very little, and has since obtained his citizenship (his mother is a resident about to receive her citizenship). "He had everything against him. I know you hear that a lot from Hispanics or Immigrants, but he had everything against him," he says. And just like his father, Adan plans on beating the odds. "Phenomenal is my word," he says. "There's not an essay I write that doesn't include that word." And if you think he's all talk, hold on. "I know I might sound arrogant or cocky, but I'll let my actions speak for themselves," he says. "No lip service."

How long have you been in EIF?
Adan Gonzalez: 2 years

Was there a particular friend/family member/teacher who encouraged you to join EIF?
AG: My brother, that was the first thing he told me was to get into EIF, he graduated last year. EIF helped him with his college process and paperwork; he said it was a lot easier than doing it by himself, that was the main thing.

Where do you want to go to college?
AG: If it's out of Texas, American University or here, SMU or UNT.

What do you want to study?
For my minor, for sure I want to study political science, but I don't know my major yet.

If you were given a million dollars, what would you do first?
AG: Invest it.

Who would you like to meet, living or dead?
AG: Oscar de la Hoya

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Egypt

What's your favorite song?
"Eye of the Tiger"

What's your motto or favorite quote you use to motive yourself?
I have it on my cell phone: "The road to success is not a destination; it's a journey yet to be written." It actually says "champion," but I changed the word. I also like "Never settle for good when you can be the best."
